4 Reasons Fitness = Being Prepared

 Aright guys, lets face it, we have all seen the action, horror, comedy, movie where the fat guy gets eaten, stabbed, or shot. There are few things more essential to being prepared then being in physically good condition.

This does not mean you have to be a crazy gym rat who lives at the weight rack (Trust me, I have been that guy). This simply means being aware of what shape you are in, and working towards a goal of getting better.

No, I am not a fitness guru! Nor do I have the healthiest habits myself, (try staying healthy and eating bloody MRE’s three meals a day), but I am in good shape, and stay in good shape, because I don’t want to be they guy who dies in the first 5 minutes of the horror movie.

Here are some easy ways to know whether you need to change your fitness habits:


Do You Exercise?

 

Exercise is essential to a healthy life style and being prepared. It doesn't matter how big your guns are if you cant pick them up.

We have all seen the obese redneck screaming that he could take on ISIS, but the sad truth is he would be lucky to make it 2 blocks before collapsing from exhaustion.

So exercise! it's not that hard and there are a thousand tutors, trainers, and guides, ready to show you how on youtube.

 How Often Are You Active?

 

Look, you don't even have to go to the gym to get exercise. A healthy amount of activity can come from any kind of action.

In the Marine Corps we are forced to workout daily and this keeps us fit, but in the real world there is no one screaming “PUSH” at you.

You have to decide to be active. This is easy for those “lucky” blue collar guys like construction workers and landscapers. They are active 8-12 hours a day. These guys don't have to worry about working out.

But the white collar guys do. The truth is guys…YOU CAN WORKOUT ANYWHERE! I was staying in one location where I had two cinder blocks and a 2x4 post and I created a complete body routine.

It doesn't have to be long, fancy, or special. Just be active everyday to prepare for when you will HAVE to be active all the time.

 

Do You Eat Right?

 

Great, so you know how to trap 47 different types of edible animals, and your have an encyclopedic knowledge of plants that can be eaten, thats great…but how is your daily diet?

What do you eat when you get home from work, and for breakfast everyday?

Daily diet plays a huge role in preparing because it primes your body for action. You cannot be ready when SHTF if your too busy getting the meat sweats.

Get a dietary book and see a nutritionist. Be the guy who knows how to hunt and gather…the right food everyday, not just when SHTF.

 How Much Do You Eat?

 

So you eat quality foods eh? Thats great! But how much?

If you're a naturally skinny guy like me then you can get away with eating as much as you bloody well want but this is not the case for many.

Eating right is great, but you must limit the amount you eat regardless of how high quality the food is. You can get fat off vegetables if you eat enough of them.

 Lets Be Real Though!

Okay, I know what you're thinking, You're saying to yourself “Great, another hippie trying to tell me to munch rabbit food and do yoga!”.

In a way yes…don't get me wrong, for years I thought that all this healthy stuff was a load of hogwash and my fast metabolism would be just fine.

But after I started exercising and eating right I felt so much better I swore I would never go back.

Being prepared is not limited to the amount of ammunition stored for future use, or the number of traps you know how to build. Being prepared is a mindset that enables you to accomplish more and find creative ways out of tough situations.

After all, you cannot create an 4lpha strategy if your too out of shape to think…
